Help Finding What You Were Looking For
If you got to my site from a search engine but you can’t quickly spot what you were looking for, use the Search box at the top of the right-side navigation pane. Reenter the same query in there that you put into the search engine, and you can quickly find my post(s) about the topic within this blog and without having to scroll a lot.
For some reason, search engines tend to pick up things I write about and link directly to my main page. The problem is, the software puts my newest posts at the top; so by the time you come looking for something, it has already scrolled down a ways. When you use my site’s search, it links directly to individual posts.
Long-Term Solutions
For further improvement, I’m really curious whether there’s a flag I can set to encourage search engines to pick up my permalinks (the links that go straight to the specific posts) more quickly. Searching for things I wrote about longer ago tends to pull up the permalinks, but searching for more recent items tends to bring the main page.
Feedback Welcome; Assistance Available
By the way, I created this blog for my own use and to share what I’m doing with my friends. I’m intrigued that search engines are picking it up, but I’ve never actively tried to get high search engine ratings.
That said, I’m excited about the things I do and write about, and I’m delighted if they’re useful to other people. I’d be very interested in your feedback on anything and everything you see here–just use the comment link (which may say “No Comments” until the first comment is posted), and I’ll read what you wrote within a day or so.
Note that your comment won’t appear immediately. Because spammers use software to automatically post comments, my system is set up to require me to approve comments before they appear on the site.
Also note that if you put an email address into a comment, it doesn’t appear in the post–but if you’d like a response, I’d be happy to email you back. Heck, if you’re looking for information about something I’ve worked on but didn’t describe in enough detail, post a comment and I’ll write more about it, either for the blog or in an email directly to you.
